Welcome to the Maggie L. Walker Governor's School Athletic Boosters Club

Maggie L. Walker Governor's School is widely recognized for its superb academics. We also have a top-ranked athletic program with outstanding coaches and award-winning athletes. More than half the student body participates in athletics, with the school fielding 11 boys and 11 girls teams in 11 interscholastic sports. We've had great success winning conference, region, and state championships. For the past six years, Maggie Walker has won the prestigious Wells Fargo Cup, awarded to the school in its size group that performs best in state-level competition across all sports throughout the school year. In 2021, the award changed to the National Guard Cup, and Maggie Walker placed Athletics #1 and Academics #2. In addition, Maggie Walker has been awarded the Stay in the Game Award many years, recognizing schools that receive no player or coach ejections during each sports season.

Fundraising

The Maggie L. Walker Governor's School Athletic Boosters Club plays a critical supporting role in our athletes' success. We provide funds to fill the gap between program needs and the athletic department budget, including funds for program enhancements and capital improvements. Without a football team to generate ticket revenues and high-volume concessions sales, we rely primarily upon the donations of our generous Boosters.

Suggested giving levels:

Booster:  Up to $100 - You will receive a MLWGS Athletic Boosters sticker
Varsity:  $100 - $249 - You will receive a MLWGS Athletic Boosters sticker
All-Conference:  $250 - $499 - You will receive a MLWGS Athletic Boosters sticker + 1 pass to all home, regular season games
All-Region:  $500 - $999 - You will receive a MLWGS Athletic Boosters sticker + 2 passes to all home, regular season games

All-State:  $1,000 +  You will receive a MLWGS Athletic Boosters sticker + family of 4 passes to all home, regular season games

Our primary goal is 100% membership of families with student-athletes, and any contribution is appreciated.

The Athletic Boosters Club is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. For those making a tax-deductible contribution, our EIN is 54-6404025. The easiest way to donate is on the Athletic Boosters webpage, which can be found here:  https://sites.google.com/view/mlwgs-ab-site/donate  There are other ways to donate as well: 1) by credit card using the donate feature on the Foundation's website, which can be found through the link to the Foundation on the school's website, or 2) complete the Membership Form found at the bottom of this webpage and return it to Valenta Williams' office (Room 100 of the Bluestone lobby) or mail to Governor's School Foundation, 1000 N. Lombardy St., Richmond, VA 23220. Please be sure to include the notation "Athletic Boosters" in the memo line of your check.

Your Participation Is Welcome

The Athletic Boosters is a wonderful way for parents to contribute to the school, whether in the form of a donation or volunteering time and energy. We welcome parent participation. We meet once a month, usually at school in Room 105 at 6pm. Check out the MLWGS DRAMA website

The Drama Boosters, comprised of parents, faculty, and community members, exists to assist the MLWGS drama program which includes the fall production, the spring musical, Shakespeare performances, student-directed one-act plays. 
We coordinate the building of the sets, assist with props and wardrobe, coordinate meals during weekend work and tech week, sell concessions and fan-o-grams at shows, and provide funds for incidentals and major improvements. Past improvements have included new tools, wireless microphones, and portable lighting. We are in the process of overseeing the replacement of the Black Box curtain. 
 
We also fund student participation in the International Thespian Society, student workshops, outings, student-run Drama Club activities, and the end-of-year Awards Ceremony known as the "Wiggies." 
 
100% of Donations go the students MLWGS Drama program.
 
Drama Boosters meetings are held monthly at MLWGS with the student Drama Board, the director, the technical director, the producer, and other key stakeholders. 
We typically meet on the second Monday of the month in room 150 at 6pm.
Attendance is not required to be a Booster. 
Donation is not required to be a Booster.

The Music Boosters provides essential support and resources to enhance the experience of every music student. Donations fund new musical instruments, sheet music, professional clinicians, guest performances, honors ensembles, field trips, recording and education technology, facility enhancements, concert attire, and special awards. Donors are recognized in the Winter and Spring Concert programs.

ABOUT THE VAB

The Visual Arts Boosters (VAB) provide financial and other support for the visual arts programs at Maggie L. Walker Governor's School. Fundraising and other support efforts help to provide students with specialized materials and equipment and unique opportunities for further exploration of art, our local art community, and art-related careers. Field trips, guest artists, a lecture series, exhibits, awards, domestic and international travel, and other unique experiences are all supported by the VAB.  

The VAB needs YOU to help reach the following GOALS:

  1. Offer support for the art students, their teachers, and the curriculum, which provides unique and essential connections to the overall mission of the school. 
  2. Raise funds for special materials and equipment, awards, events, and art enrichment opportunities (guest artists, travel, etc.).
  3. Provide leadership by offering your ideas and input, on-the-scene or behind-the-scene support, and participation in VAB meetings and/or events.
  4. Reach the 100% mark! We would LOVE to say that ALL families with students enrolled in visual arts classes are supporters of the VAB!
